Good silver cricket trophy, the cover modelled as a wicket keeper above winged victory handles, the wide body below engraved with a stumping scene and to the reverse: 'Boyle and Scotts Challenge Cup/ For Best Junior Cricket Club/ Season 1884-5/ Won By The/ Queensberry Cc/ Hotham', above a rocky base with a gilt bowling kangaroo facing a batting lion. Marks: unmarked but appears to test positive for silver. Height 43 cm; weight: 2460 grams. Provenance: The berry collection. Notes: Boyle played in the 'Australian Test' team against the touring English team in 1878/79 in 1879 he formed a partnership with David Scott to open a sporting warehouse in Bourke St, Melbourne. This sporting trophy for young cricketers ran from at least 1881 to 1891 as the partnership dissolved in 1892.
