A Maori ceremonial hoe canoe paddle, attributed to Jacob William Heberley (Hakopa Heperi) 1849 -1906, of dark stained wood, the blade ornately carved with tiki figures with inset paua eyes on a Rauponga ground, the shaft carved with a weku head, terminating in an upturned fist, symbol of the Rangitu faith, the reverse carved with Rauponga.
