A Chinese blue and white and famille rose peony dish, Qing Dynasty (1644-1912), 18th century, decorated with scrolling peonies in underglaze blue and fencai enamels, and a six character Qianlong mark to the base. The rim bound with metal, 3.5 cm high, 26.5 cm diameter. Provenance: Purchased in Thailand, 1949-1952 or 1963-1968, Allan Henry Loomes Obe (1917-1990), and thence by descent. Allan Loomes was Australian Consul-General to Thailand (1949-1952) and Australian Ambassador to Burma (1958-1961), Thailand (1963-1968), south Korea (1968-1971), and Venezuela and Peru (1974-1978).
