Mid 19th century French oak Gothic revival armchair, design attributed to Jeanselme Freres. Rectangular padded back with ogival trefoil arch, flanked by pierced trefoils. Carved arms with arch supports, the legs joined by pierced Gothic apron, height 130 cm, width 66 cm, depth 63 cm. Provenance: H. Blairman & Sons. Nearly identical example in N.Y. Met collection. Their example stamped 'Jeanselme' a mark used between 1840-1853. Estate late John Schaeffer.
