Dirk Hartog's Plate: Pewter replica of Hartog Plate. The original plate was left by Dutch explorer Dirk Hartog on the coast of WA in 1616, and discovered by Willem de Vlamingh in 1697 and returned to the Netherlands, where it is still kept in the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, the oldest-known artifact of European exploration still in existence.

An Australian silver tray by William Edwards of Melbourne, circa 1865, engraved with scrolling grapevines within a cast border of classical masks, mythical beasts & grape filled urns, marked 'W. Edwards/Melbourne' 23.5 cm diameter, 530 grams. For a similar salver with pierced cast border see The Altman Collection, National Gallery of Victoria. The border is copied from a design used by the London silversmith Steven Smith. It is possible that Edwards cast the border from a Smith piece.
