A late 18th century portrait miniature of Dr. John Snipe Dr. Snipe, d.1805, was Physician to the Royal Navy Mediterranean Fleet during the late 18th century and medical advisor to Lord Nelson. He was instrumental in providing health services to the Royal Navy servicemen, in particular, control of diseases and inspection of hospitals.
