A rare 1920s Santa Catalina Solomon island spider web fishing lure, on a spool line together with another web lure and a dried preserved needlefish head, the spider web is suspended on a line from a kite above the water, the web appears to the fish as an insect on the surface of the water, the web catches in the sharp teeth of the fish and the fish is then caught without the use of a hook. Provenance: collected in the Solomon Islands in the 1920s
