Examples of decorative arts sourced from all parts of the world will be auctioned from 6.30pm Monday May 7 at Leonard Joel’s national decorative arts auction at 333 Malvern Road, South Yarra.

Jointly organised by the company’s offices in Sydney and Melbourne, the auction will showcase the Patti David collection – comprising elegant furniture and paintings from her Sydney Woolloomooloo residence – and Melbourne’s the De Stoop collection comprising sophisticated 18th and 19th century antiques.

The auction also contains items from private collections within Australia and New Zealand and covers a range of categories from fine porcelain to European and English furniture, glass, marble, silver and clocks.

The English furniture on offer ranges from 18th century oak to Georgian Chinoiserie.

A highlight of the European furniture is a Louis XV period canapé (Lot 23 ) and a Louis Philippe period meuble d’appui (Lot 24 ).

Auction goers who love precious metals will appreciate the national silver offering which caters for a broad spectrum of tastes – from highly crafted 18th century European silver to clean modern designs such Georg Jensen and Stuart Devlin.

The porcelain and ceramics shows a variety of styles including a rare William Moorcroft silver overlaid 'Claremont' exhibition ewer (Lot 260 ), featured on the catalogue cover, and the more traditional pair of exceptional Sevres exhibition vases with finely painted castle and figural scenes (Lot 31 ).

Other items bound to interest auction goers include an 18th century English Chinoiserie black Japanned chest (Lot 45 ), a fine 19th century Italian carved marble bust and column after the Mona Lisa by Professor Guiseppe Besse (1857-1922) (Lot 51 ) and a late 19th century 2.2-metre tall seminal marble figural lamp ‘Danzal Sul Fuocco’ signed by Professor Castellucci (Lot 52 ).

A late 19th century Italian marble carving of a tiger attributed to Professor Mazzini (Lot 54 ) is another attraction along with a Chinese enamel jardinière (Lot 61 ) and a cased set of circa 1800 percussion duelling pistols by William Parker (Lot 91 ).
