Grace Antique Galleries is one of the last of a prominent generation of dealerships within the “Golden Mile” of the antique industry – High Street, Armadale.

Over the past 45 years, owner Ross Grace has built an enviable reputation for sourcing fine quality English and European country furniture and is considered by many to represent the last word in classic antique style and decor.

Situated at his current premises (1120 High Street) since 1975, Ross has finally decided to call it a day and has asked Leonard Joel to auction the contents of the business on site from 11am Sunday.

As with many antique dealers, determining those stock items that were to become part of his personal collection was always difficult. Ross used a well-worn stock book to note each item’s story and history of where and when purchased and for how much.

Of particular note at the auction is the impressive pair of 19th century French cast iron eagle sculptures (Lot 100 ) and 18th century Italian walnut corbels (Lot 200 ). Other items of interest to auction goers include the 1890s Russian silver gilt cloisonné enamelled Easter egg from St Petersburg (Lot 150 ), the 19th century specimen wood inlaid sewing box (Lot 35 ) and the French gilt bronze and ivory dancing figure (Lot 93 ).
