A good N.Z. colonial carved kauri long case clock, the pediment as a winged cherub mask above the 31 circular dial with cut brass applied Roman numerals and Art Nouveau copper hands, framed by a fruiting vine and scroll relief detail, above an open section housing the large brass pendulum, columns flanking, the base with further conforming floral, urn and scroll detail, two weights suspended, the movement striking on four various arms. Family Provenance: This clock was carved by a Fencible. Note: The Royal N.Z. Fencible Corps were retired soldiers from Britain and Ireland who enlisted as a military reserve to act as a 'Defence Force' for the protection of early settlers in the fledgling town of Auckland.
