German (World War II) Geist Des Deutschen Soldat [Spirit of the German Soldier] / Der Helden [The Hero] Spelter mounted on metal base unsigned height 16 cm. Other Notes: This is a very highly dramatic spelter sculpture of a German Landser with World War I helmet. This is the classic pose of der Helden (the hero). It was customary to depict him bare-shouldered in the classical Greek statuary form. These sculptures were in high visibility at Wehrmacht Kasserne and Waffen-SS barracks throughout the Reich in the 1930's and 1940's
