A c.1900 'SHINGFAT' Chinese silver rose bowl, shaped rim, relief decoration of chrysanthemum flowering branches and butterflies, engraved rocky outcrops to the base, the spreading circular pedestal foot presentation engraved 'Presented To Wor. Bro. E A Stanton, P.M. By The Brethern, Lodge Star of Southern China No. 2013, E.C., Canton. On the Occasion of His Marriage April 3rd 1909'. Impressed marks to base including 'Shingfat', fine hammer marks evident to interior of foot. Diameter 22.5 cm, height 13 cm, 850gms. Note: Stanton was a partner of the Canton based trading house Deacon & Company during the late 19th century They were also involved as commission, shipping and insurance agents. The Stanton family relocated to Kent in England c.1922, taking with them their collection of Chinese curiosities, a collection which has remained largely intact since that time', further details available of Deacon & Co
