1949 Melbourne Cup, 3-handled loving cup, engraved on front 'Melbourne Cup/ 1949. Won by Mr. L.G. Robinson's/ Foxzami', on wooden stand, 37 cm tall. Foxzami owned by Leonard G.Robinson won the 1949 Melbourne Cup by 3 lengths from Hoyle & Benvolo, before a crowd of 110,000 at Flemington on the first Tuesday in November 1949. The prize money was Pds 9050., the cup was taken to Lord Howe Island, and although the owner died in 1955, it remained there until 1979 when the estate was auctioned by Geoff K.Gray in Sydney, where it was acquired by the present owner.
