One fine Mongolian thangka painting, depicting Avalokiteshvara, together with another thangka of Yamantaka with Consort, [2], miniature thangka paintings are used for personal spiritual practices when travelling. They are often kept in a bronze or wood Gua, a type of locket that houses the painting. It is then worn around the neck for devotional practices & protection when travelling.
