Rare & impressive elephant tusk, Ex collection of Henry Charles 'Inky' Stephens (February 1841 – July 1918) taken by Frederick Courteney Selous, African hunter and Adventurer 1851-1917, His real-life adventures inspired Sir H. Rider Haggard to create the fictional Allan Quatermain character. Selous was also a friend of Theodore Roosevelt, Cecil Rhodes and Frederick Russell Burnham. He was pre-eminent within a select group of big game hunters that included Abel Chapman and Arthur Henry Neumann. He was the older brother of ornithologist and writer Edmund Selous. The tusk is inscribed with I.D numbers for the British Museum & Islamic symbols, approx weight of 75KG (AD12N 8418) approx 240 cm high, W. Ex Henry Charles 'Inky' Stephens (February 1841 – July 1918)
