Description:
A good violin by Pierre Audinot (1893 -1971), after Amati, 34.5 cm body with one piece flame back and conforming sides, maple head and two piece spruce top, with light red varnish. Bearing its original manuscript label 'Pierre Audinot, Paris 1933' and with signature. Audinot comes from a renowned family of luthiers, (see http://tinyurl.com/Pierre-Audinot for biographical detail). With a Certificate d'Expertise from the R & M Millant workshop where Audinot worked as a foreman from 1934 stating its genuineness, and provenance to Yamamoto & Co., Osaka along with a 1973 receipt of its purchase for 395,000 Japanese yen equivalent to about NZ$11,900 today.
