Australian 1910 'Henry Newman' Edwardian 15ct. Mabe pearl and diamond pendant with chain. A 40 mm wide star brooch / pendant in 15ct yellow gold, set with old mine cut and rose cut diamonds to the star and leaf design centred with a cream high domed, early Broome mabe pearl. Commissioned to, commemorate Halley’s Comet event c1910. a 44 cm, belcher flattened link chain with barrel clasp. Condition excellent – handcrafted & Hallmarked. History -. Henry Newman c1824-1913 Melbourne and Broome. Arrived in Melbourne in 1852 from London. Setting up, up business in 1855 after a stint in the goldfields. An award winning jeweller who in 1900 developed an interest in the pearling industry at Broome, which led, to ownership of 26 luggers and a schooner with his, partner T.C.
