A balsa log from the 1973 'Las Balsas' Expedition, an Ecuadorian balsa log from the 'Guayaquil', located off the coast of Newcastle on the 5th December 1973, one of a group of three rafts each with four crew and one cat that travelled 14,000 km across the Pacific Ocean before breaking up near Newcastle; Las Balsas was the longest multiple raft crossing in recorded history, its aim to test sea currents and theories about trade and colonisation.
