Len Maddocks played 7 Tests 1954-57. An eye injury to incumbent wicket-keeper Gil Langley in 1954-55 Ashes series provided Maddocks with an opportunity and he responded with plucky innings of 47 and 69, top-scoring in his first two Tests against the pace of Tyson and Statham
