Description:
An interesting carved emu egg, depicting Western Australian Racehorse, 'Eurythmic', dated 1922, the egg is engraved with two (8 x 6 cm) oval panels and two smaller vignettes (4 x 3 cm), the eggs front panel depicts a horse and jockey titled 'Eurhythmic'; the verso panel depicting native landscape scene with lizard and lyrebird titled, 'The Lyrebirds Retreat', the two engraved vignettes: one depicting native wildlife in tree titled 'Kolo'; the verso engraved 'With. Best Wishes from Tom to Peg, 1922', the top egg engraved with two overlapping stars. Height 12.5 cm (with metal stand). Note: Race horse Eurythmic was foaled in 1916 and was by Eudorus out of the mare Bob cherry (by. Bobadil). From 47 starts he had an incredible 30 wins, 6 seconds and 4 thirds and amassed over £36000 in prize money -a fortune at today's standards. His main wins included the 1921 Sydney cup, the 1920. Caulfield cup, 1920 WATC St Leger Stakes, 1919. Perth cup (DH), 1921 AJC Autumn Stakes, 1921 VRC. King's plate, Herbert power Stakes, CB Fisher plate, St George Stakes.
