Carletto Caliari (Italian, 1570-1596), La Circoncision, oil on canvas, 183 x 160 cm, In the present work Caliari has taken the colours and the composition of the work of his father as in The Presentation in the Temple. Pedrocco, Veronese, volume II, Milan, 1995, fig. 272, reproduced p. 385), The work further combines the narrative detail and naturalistic style of Bassano including his use of religious themes in everyday life., The composition of the figures surrounding the Virgin and Child, the monumental architecture and the faces of several characters are reminiscent of the painting of the Nativity in the Church of San Afra of Brescia and The Adoration of the Shepherds of the Academy of Venice, (see Crosato L.Larcher, 'Carletto Caliari Per' in Arte Veneta, XXI, 1967, pp. 112-113, reproduced fig. 124 and 125).
