An early Chinese limestone fragmentary torso, probably Northern Qi (550-577), the body subtly rendered, with minor traces of pigment, metal mounted base, similar example please see 'The Art of Contemplation, Religious Sculpture from Private Collections', Palace Museum, Taiwan, cat no 26, p102 &103 for a complete but very similar figure, 41 cm high. Provenance: Melbourne private collection, acquired by a Professor of Art History in Italy and brought to Melbourne in the early 1970's, and passed on by descent to the current owner
