A very fine shibayama gold lacquer Mokkogata tsuba, Meiji period, signed Nemoto-zo. Inlaid in mother of pearl, coral, ivory, and shakudo on a nashiji and kirikane ground and decorated in takamakie and hiramakie lacquer, with silver and cloisonne rim., one side depicting two rabbits toasting a female figure with libation, the reverse showing masked oni (devils) scheming to carry out bad deeds. Nemoto was a member of the shibayama family who produced very fine work, 11.3 x 10 cm
