A rare Arenga Pinnata wood carving, carving depicts of a young boy trying to close a clam shell on the golden toad from folk legend, the toad in the story is a three legged toad which can disgorge money, the ancient people thought that the man who had it would be rich and happy, 17.5 cm tall. Reference: This rare wood 'Arenga Pinnata' is illustrated in the Publication 'bamboo wood ivory and horn carving' highlights of Auctioned Chinese Antiques,written by Xiao Yuan,Published Cns Hunan fine arts Publishing house,May 2012, page 89, a carved Arenga Pinnata plate, 23.5 cm Qing Dynasty, Auction china guardian 26/11/2003., According to this book there are very few examples of this rare wood, even in the extensive collection of the Palace Museum china, which confirms this Asian wood was extremely rare even in the early Qing period 1644-1912.
