Important Mahe - Sinker. A very rare Pre-European stone carved God sinker (mahe) or ballast stone, with carved janus manaia figures to the top which is perforated for attachment to a line. Of exceptional quality and superior to those in the British Museum, these fishing sinkers are extremely rare and their importance is shown by The National Museum Te Papa putting an example on their front cover of the superb publication 'Toi Ora, Ancestral Maori Treasures'.
