Chiefly Tongan War Club. A flared rounded handle at one end leading to a flattened thick triangular head with a raised medial ridge. This finely carved club is completely covered with characteristic engraved decoration, with an unusual vine type design encircling the handle and rising to the mid-section a crescent moon is carved to the top. These types of prestigious weapons are a symbol of rank as a well as a weapon. This amount of decoration, suggests the owner was a highly skilled warrior and was probably also a chief.
