Eight superbly carved Chinese ivory panels. Framed in China c.1923. According to the inscription on the. back of two of the frames, these panels are Qinglong dynasty. and were made for the imperial court. Frame 1. The top oval panel depicts sheep in a mountainous. landscape amongst rocks, trees and shrubs. The rectangular. panel below depicts the eight immortals underneath a willow. tree. Frame 2. The top oval panel depicts horses in a mountainous. landscape amongst trees, shrubs and rocks. The rectangular. panel below depicts scholars in a mountain landscape crossing. a bridge with a stork above. Frame 3. The top oval panel depicts raindeer in a. mountainous landscape amoungst rocks, trees, shrubs and a. b below depicts a farmer leading a horse with two scholars at a. table. All underneath a flowering tree. Frame 4. The top oval panel depicts cows in a mountainous. landscape amongst rocks, a temple, trees and a bridge. The. lower panel depicts a courtyard in a mountainous landscape. Two ladies read while a third contemplates at a table. Each oval panel 15 x 10 cm, rectangular panels 15.5 x 10 cm. Each frame 33.5 x 11.5 cm. The frames and glazed metal cases seem to have been. made in 1923 when the Stanton family left Canton for Kent,. England.
