A Woodnorth New Zealand colonial pottery majolica glazed jardiniere, the incised ribbed flared body with short shoulder decorated with applied star motifs, stylised scalloped shell detail to the frilled and flared top rim, banded majolica glaze decoration in brown, green and tan, impressed ‘World War ’ mark to base, some faults. Height 20 cm diameter 285. Note: the Woodnorth Pottery was established in 1876-77 by Peter Woodnorth learning his pottery skills at a factory in Burslem, Staffordshire.
