A Carlton ware 'Mandarins Chatting' bowl, circa 1932-1936, pattern 3672, shape 467, design attributed to Violet Elmer. The tapering ovoid bowl with a short broad neck decorated with two male Chinese figures conversing in a garden below an elegantly twisted tree with gilded tracery and apple green leaves, an enamel floral border to the neck upon a deep blue mottled ground; with backstamp underside, pattern and shape numbers. Height 15 cm
