An exceptional last ditch Japanese type 30 straight cross guard squared birds head pommel bayonet with its exceptionally rare wooden scabbard. The blade without fullers I marked with the subcontractors mark of Matsushita Kinzoku (Matsushita Metals) and does not have the usual Arsenal supervision mark. Some late bayonets have only the 'arrow-M' company logo, without the arsenal mark. Blade retains its original factory sharpening at 99 per cent of the original blue finish, cross guard tang and squared birds head pommel much finish with a little scattered light surface rust (would clean up excellent). Slab gripscales fine and retained by two rivets, locking catch works OK. Scabbard retains much original dark Khaki colour paint, the string or thin metal binding is still in place and complete, large metal chap and original locket with much original finish remaining. Slight separation of joint at rear top (not due to damage but probably shrinkage of the timber) the chap base has been pushed in a little, this could be easily remedied by someone handy
