A good mid-1950s Len Castle vase with decoration by Theo Schoon, baluster form, tenmoku and wood ash glaze, the swollen body with four Theo Schoon impressed stamps based on his interpretation of early Maori rock drawings found in Canterbury caves, impressed potter's mark. Note: Schoon & Castle collaborated on occasions during the mid-1950s with Schoon decorating a variety of castle pots. Castle found Schoon's work sophisticated and impeccably crafted, 'He strengthened my visual awareness and reinforced my tendencies to explore the natural world', Schoon's desire to influence Castle's work has been recorded as overpowering.
