A 19th century Impressive Waka Huia, Northland Carved 1870s - 1880s the lid and bowl surfaces high relief carved and finished in dark brown. The substantial lid has a small handle which separates three full manaia heads on each side, each head with paua inset eyes, and manaia profiles feature through the rest of the lid. Koruru features in the middle of the bowl, hand on each cheek, two fully detailed heads form the legs, again each head with paua inset eyes. Note; one manaia head repaired.
