Rare early Tasmanian sterling silver table snuff box in original leather box made by convict silversmith Charles Jones (Assigned to Watchmaker & Silversmith David Barclay & Freed from convict service in July 1839) This snuff box was made for presentation to John Mezger in 1848 & is engraved with the words 'This box is Presented to John Mezger by William Gore Elliston in grateful remembrance of a most disinterested act of kindness' the lid is decorated with a wreath of vine leaves. Both Mezger & Gore Elliston were nnown early Tasmanian Identities. (dimensions length 8.5 cm, width 5.9 cm x high 2 cm)
