A Japanese Art Nouveau hardwood 'Iris' chair, Meiji period, late 19th century, the chair having a shaped back dramatically pierced and carved with iris blooms and sweeping foliage, with a relief carved splat of conforming design to a decorative painted lacquer seat, a shaped and carved apron and fantastic creature cabriole legs.
