A rare Georgian sundial signal cannon, c.1800. Bronze, brass with marble base construction. Height 21 cm; diameter 27 cm. Note: the sundial is positioned (usually at noon) so the sun moves over the burning glass which ignites the fuse firing the cannon. Provenance: Purchased by Sir Percy Fitz Patrick at the time he bought the homestead 'Honenheim' from Sir Lionel Phillips. in later years the sundial was purchased by J.C. Kemsley, mayor of port Elizabeth, on Sir Percy Fitz Patrick deceased estate auction sale which took place at 'Amanzi' Eastern cape. Then to the grandson of John Kemlsey to current owner
