A Chinese Informal female Winter peach silk robe, mid 19th century, the embroidery in Peking knot and satin stitch, finely designed with seasonal flowers in white, sea-blue and sky-blue florals including peonies and chrysanthemum in stylised form to the body., the broad sleeve cuffs of pale gold silk, embroidered with a floral pattern in colourful design., the lower section of the robe depicts a stormy sea with the Imperial peonies scattered throughout., the border is black with gold threaded trim through a scrolling floral and foliate embroidered band with butterflies, the symbol of joy and happiness in marriage. Three hollow repousse gilt buttons attached to the front of the robe.
