This lightning premiership was played in front of 30,407 fans, with the gate takings of almost +3,000 going to the war effort, the series was played on a complicated knock-out basis, with Richmond defeating north in one semi-final, and St. Kilda defeating Carlton by 2 points in the other. St. Kilda won the lightning premiership, thrashing Richmond by 24 points. Before the following week's game, each St. Kilda player was presented with a replica of the Patriotic match cup - it was St. Kilda's first Premiership of any sort)
