1888 Coloured Champion of the World Boxing Trophy, Victorian sterling silver two-handled trophy cup embossed with flowers & floral scrolls, hallmarked London 1860, with maker's mark 'Ge', engraved on front 'Presented to Peter Jackson, Coloured, Champion Boxer of the World, at the Alhambra, Brighton, Eng, Monday Decr 2nd 1889, By A Few Admirers of His Sterling Qualities', 28 cm tall. Together with book 'Peter Jackson - A Biography of the Australian Heavyweight Champion 1860-1901' by Bob Petersen (USA, 2011). (Peter 'Black Prince' Jackson was a heavyweight boxer from Australia who had a significant international career. He won the Australian heavyweight title in 1886 with a knockout of Tom Lee in the 30th round, and the British Commonwealth title against Jem Smith by Ko in the second round. In 1888 he beat 'Old Chocolate' Godfrey to gain the World Coloured Heavyweight Championship. In 1891 in Benicia, California he fought future world champion James Corbett, and in 1898 lost to another future world champion James J.Jeffries. A short time after becoming the first black Heavyweight champion of the world in 1908, Jack Johnson made a pilgrimage to Peter Jackson's grave in Queensland, a measure of the respect in which the man was held in the boxing community worldwide)
