Lieutenant G.C. Matthews: three Training Notebooks from the Royal flying Corps school, Aboukir, maintained by Lieutenant G.C.Matthews, 9th Australian Light Horse, while in training in 1916, each book contains notes from his lectures with each notebook individually titled on a printed label and completed in manuscript. One notebook has the printed heading 'Notes', another 'Notes, Rigging', and the last 'Notes. Engine'. Rare survivors from one of Australia's earliest aviators.after the first World War, Matthews competed in the 1919 England-Australia Air Race which was won by Ross & Keith Smith. He later operated the Matthews Air service between Melbourne and Tasmania
