Two Chinese inside-painted glass snuff bottles, Signed Hong Sheng, dated 1972 of Yue or Shantou (swatow) school, and thin-glass rounded bottles, 9 cm, 9 cm (2). Provenance: Purchased at C.A.C in the late 1980s and early 1990s The production of the Yue or Shantou (Swatow) school of inside painted snuff bottles was halted during the Cultural Revolution, and only resumed in 1972. During the early days of the resumed production, bottles were never signed with individual artists' names. Instead style names were categorically assigned to different themes. 'Hongsheng' was signed on bottles painted with landscapes, as is seen in this lot. The Yue-school has been particularly associated with the usage of rounded bottles resembling a small vase.
