Sam Wells (1885 - 1964), 'Our Old Bill' oil painting on board. A caricature of Prime Minister Billy Hughes, signed lower right. Sam Wells started his career at the Melbourne punch but is best known for his sporting and political drawings published in the Melbourne Herald. His original pen and ink drawings have been seen around Melbourne since Young's Auctions sold his estate in 1984. Richard Berry bought most of the cartoons at that auction. 38 x 15 cm
