A superb cup-hilt rapier in the Spanish or Italian taste of mid 17th century date. Approx 115 cm overall length with approx 95 cm straight blade, high quality silver wire bound grip with vertical silver bars. Steel guard with long straight quillons, the quillons, knuckle bow and pommel all very well cut with helical fluting. The street cup with finely cut turned over edge and a pierced panel at the termination of the finger loops. The tapered double edged blade with short single fullers is struck with maker's stamp at the ricasso and cross stamps just ahead of the fullers.
