He was one of the founders of the Linnan school. Many important artists from this school, such as Gao Jianfu, Gao Qifeng and Chen Shuren, were Ju Lian's students. Works by Ju Lian are represented in several important Museum collections including: the Birmingham Art Museum, Birmingham, UK and the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. Catalogue note: the Collector, Dr. K S Lo (1910-1995) was the entrepreneur and founder of Vitasoy in Hong Kong. In 1936 he attended a talk in Shanghai about the benefits of the soya bean. This had a dramatic impact on him, as he had witnessed great malnutrition of the people in Hong Kong after the World War. Dr. Lo created an affordable and healthy family drink to 'Save his people'. This same passion and rich foresight extended to his interest in Chinese Art. Dr. Lo amassed an important collection and in so doing, became a great benefactor to talented younger artists, such as Ju Lian. See detail image on page 136
