A rare Chinese carved and painted sandstone figure of a 'Songzi' Guanyin, Southern song Dynasty (1127-1279), 13th century or possibly later. Depicting the serene Guanyin as Bestower of children, breast-feeding her baby, with Longnu and Shancai, her two 'Acolytes', resting at either side of her folded vermilion robes painted additionally with copper-green and traces of blue pigment, on a plinth, 97 cm high.
