A 19th century tewhatewha, mid brown wood, polished staff ends in a blunt point with a carved ridge 7 cm from the bottom. Length 111 cm. Provenance: has been, in the family since 1880s - first came to Timaru, NZ, in 1848. Great-grandfather of vendor moved to Dunedin 1883 and established friendship, with local Maori, and began collecting artefacts.
