An impressive 19th century French large bronze figured mantel clock, surmounted with a seated ancient Greek philosopher, finely modelled with a long beard, draped in a flowing robe, a scroll to his left hand engraved 'Le Bonheur Nait de la Vertu' (Happiness comes from Virtue), upon a gilded flaring pediment, the ornate block base with relief floral detail and scrolling feet housing the centrally mounted dial, gilt Roman numerals framing the central engraved radiating form and named 'Giese A Paris', the quality French movement striking on a bell, with pendulum and key. 58 cm x 18 cm x 51 cm
