A rare pre-European Maori stone decorated toki (adze/axe blade), Duff type 2 variety B, of large tapered quadrangular section, unusually decorated with two spiralling forms carved to the butt end. 7.3 cm x 28.4 cm x 6.6 cm. Note: decorated adze blades are rare and associated with Ngati Kahungunu, the third largest Iwi, situated in the Hawkes Bay and Wairarapa areas. This large example is in good condition with only very minor chipping.
