A large and impressive Chinese 19th century 'Romance of the Three Kingdoms' Canton famille rose vase Romance of the three Kingdoms sanguo yanyi was written in the 14th century by Luo Guanzhong and soon became china's most famous historical fiction novel. Set during the turbulent three Kingdoms period (AD221-280) it charts the fall of the Han Dynasty and the emergence of three major warring States, all populated with an enormous cast of military heroes, veteran strategists and femme fatales. The six narrative panels are from the opening few chapters of the book and chart a plan to depose a tyrannical Han general who has recently installed a puppet emperor as head of the fracturing empire. Height 92 cm.
