Sorell Gov. of Tasmania Jan. 1845'. William Sorell became Governor of Van Diemen's Land in 1817 under a cloud of controversy due an earlier liaison with the wife of a fellow officer Lieutenant Kent in the Cape Colonies. Sorell had seven children to his first wife and several with Mrs Kent who accompanied him to Hobart. This portrait is believed to be their youngest boy. Frame size 10 x 10 cm
