A black and gilt lacquer rectangular document box, Xiaoxiang, Qing dynasty of deep rectangular form, with double loop handles on quatrefoil escutcheons and knock plate, a large rectangular lockplate on the front with a cloud-form hasp, the sides painted in gilt on the black lacquer ground with figures variously occupied in a pavilion garden setting extending over the cover and front, the sides and back with fruiting and flowering sprays 19 cm high, 40.5 cm wide, 25 cm deep
